Delhi Weather: Dense Fog Disrupts Flight Operations; IGI Airport Issues Advisory

Delhi Weather Fog Visibility: Delhi experienced challenging weather conditions on Tuesday as the city woke up enveloped in dense fog, significantly reducing visibility to approximately 50 meters. This atmospheric phenomenon led to disruptions in both domestic and international flight operations, prompting the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) to release a passenger advisory.

"Flight operations persist at Delhi Airport, but non-CAT III compliant flights could face disruptions. Passengers are urged to reach out to the respective airline for the latest updates on their flight status. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted," shared IGI Airport via its official communication channel, X (formerly known as Twitter).

Notably, the CAT III instrument, an anti-fog landing system, plays a crucial role in aiding planes to land in adverse weather conditions like dense fog, snow, and rain. It enables landings with a minimum visibility of up to 50 meters.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a bulletin on Tuesday morning, stating, "Palam and Safdarjung continue to report dense fog conditions with 50 m visibilities. Humidity is reported at 100%, with dry bulb and dew point temperatures ranging from 10-11 Deg C. Wind speed is recorded between 3-7 kmph, contributing to the formation of dense fog conditions over Delhi."

According to the IMD, the minimum temperature recorded in the national capital on Tuesday morning was nine degrees Celsius, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 22 degrees Celsius.

Simultaneously, dense fog conditions prevailed across several states in North India, as mentioned by the weather department: "Fog conditions observed (at 0530 hours IST of today): Very dense fog in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, northwest Rajasthan, and East Uttar Pradesh; dense fog in isolated pockets of Delhi, Bihar & Odisha; moderate fog in isolated pockets of West Uttar Pradesh."

In conclusion, the intricate interplay of weather elements, particularly dense fog, has significantly impacted Delhi and neighboring regions, causing disruptions in daily activities, especially in aviation. Passengers are advised to stay informed through airline channels for real-time updates on flight schedules amid these challenging weather conditions.
