In a memorandum submitted by a delegation, including prominent figures such as Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Arun Singh, and Om Pathak, the party urged the implementation of a two-step voter verification process before individuals enter the voting compartment.
The memorandum highlighted the prevalent issue of complaints related to rigging during polling and proposed a comprehensive "two-step identification" procedure. This suggested method aims to address concerns raised by various parties about the existence of "ghost voters, fake voters, or duplicate voters" during elections.
To elaborate, Om Pathak emphasized that the BJP delegation recommended capturing a photograph of the voter and comparing it with the photo identity card before allowing access to the voting booth. Subsequently, the polling staff would cross-verify the name and ID against the list of electors for the specific booth. This approach, as suggested by the party, would enhance transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
In addition to the two-step verification proposal, the BJP urged the Election Commission to expand the coverage of videography and live webcasting from the current 50% of polling stations to encompass all polling stations across states.
